Colour

Colour in film plays an important role in setting the tone and creating representations. To show this, I have used examples from the 1979 film, Stalker, which was praised for it's use of camera shots and colour to create an immersive atmosphere.

Before entering what is called the Zone in the film the colours are muted as seen in the first image, it represents the oppressive atmosphere of the industrial, built up society they live in and contrasts with the purity and colour of nature when they finally reach the zone, however, the scenes in the Zone are still slightly muted, hinting to the fact that they eventually need to return to the city and it's dull, oppressive atmosphere.
