The Task:
The task we were assigned was to create a short clip which include a shot of someone entering a room, sitting down and exchanging a few lines of dialogue with another character. I stuck to this task well as I completed all these requirements to the best of my ability.
What I did well:
I am most proud of the editing of my clip, I believe it is well constructed for my skill level and that the process overall has greatly developed my skills in both editing and filming. My use of media language in my work has been rather sparse while I've been concentrating on filming but this will be improved during the production of my main task. I believe my preliminary clip will appeal to a wide audience between the ages of 13 - 20 due to it's mysterious beginning and attempted comedy.
What could be improved:
Due to the task I have learnt a few major lessons that will be carried over to my main task, most importantly is to get organised, having a schedule and set filming days will greatly improve the time I have and also reduce the stress an unorganised group causes. The skills I need to develop are all based around getting camera shots to look nicer, a few of my shots were off angle or shaky and would look a lot nicer if stable or as they were planned. I will ensure my improvement by keeping a note of these goals and making sure I stick to them during the production of my main task. The acting could also be improved, in my clip it was often subpar but this is a result of a lack of acting experience among us.
What I've learnt and goals for future filming:
In the future I need to be a lot more organised, having a schedule and a group I can rely on. I have also realised that I need to take more care when editing transitions as some of the transitions in my preliminary are jumpy or messy. I have also learnt about myself that I have to be clearer in my instructions as what I didn't necessarily put across my ideas too clearly during filming. In addition I've learnt a lot about using the hardware, more specificly in the use of steadycam equipment as this is the first time I have used it, this knowledge will be used to improve the quality of my main task.
